The Scottish Whisky Association has lost a 20 year legal battle to get an Indian producer to change its brand name. The association had argued that Peter Scot – one of the best selling spirits on the sub-continent – gave the misleading impression the whiskey was made in Scotland. But the Indian Supreme Court has ruled that the product – made by Khoday India – does not need to change its name. India is the world's largest consumer of whisky – but only 1% of the 1 billion litres drunk there each year is actually from outside of the country.
