Following moves by McDonald's and Starbucks to introduce "wave and pay" technology in store, Orange is to become the first mobile phone operator in the UK to offer the service. Following a deal with Barclays, Orange customers will be able to use their mobile phones for payment from this summer. Shoppers at as many as 40,000 retailers will be able to swipe their phone in front of an in store reader to make payment. Pret A Manger and Eat already feature the technology at their outlets. Near Field Communication is already a feature on Google's Nexus S smartphone and Apple's iPhone 5 is expected to use it also.
