Booze smuggling is reaching new heights in Sweden where high taxes mean a bottle of the home-produced Absolut vodka costs more than twice as much as in most of Europe. The Swedish black market is now estimated at 18.7% of the gross domestic product – some 50% higher than Britain's 12.3%. As well as the gallons of beer and spirits smuggled across the border, sales of homemade "moonshine" are also booming. The Business 18/07/04 page 1
