The British Medical Association appealed to the Government to reduce the drink-drive limit next year when the Road Safety Bill has its second reading from 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood to 50 milligrams. It said a cut in the legal blood alcohol level would prevent 50 drink-drive fatalities each year. It also wants police to carry out random breath tests at roadsides.
