Champagne Gosset has been handing out cheers and jeers in equal measure at the recently held best Champagne list awards, reports The Scotsman. While the likes of Fishmarket and Hakkasan were scooping first and second prizes for the London region, Gosset chief executive Beatrice Cointreau was decrying several eateries for their bubbly pricing policies, which she described in less than flattering terms. Cointreau said: "Sadly there was still evidence in the UK of shocking, greedy pricing, which we feel does little to encourage the uninitiated to try Champagne." Some establishments, noted judges, were adding as much as £40 for a bottle, even charging up to £100 a go for non-vintage varieties. The panel of judges was chaired by Michel Roux, and entrants’ lists, including availability, descriptions and presentation, were scrutinised. Champagne Gosset sponsored the event.
