Smoothie bars are set to become the next revolution in food and drinks retailing, dislodging coffee shops from their leading position. Juice bar Crussh opened its 14th branch this week, in London’s Strand. Meanwhile, Australian chain Boost Juice is set to launch a new chain in the UK, starting with bars in London and Manchester. It already has 180 outlets in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore, Kuwait and Chile. Innocent already sells 1m smoothies per week through existing shop and restaurant outlets, with sales set to double this year. Sales of smoothies are growing at a rate of 130% a year, against just 20% growth for chilled juices. Financial Times 24/6/06 page 5
