Greggs is expanding its Lifestyle Choice range, featuring the likes of chargrilled chicken, salsa rolls and wraps. Sir Michael Darrington, managing director, admitted that it probably was not marketing new healthier options it was producing as well as it might. The baker’s shares fell 545p to £40.58 after it warned its full-year results would fall below the previous year. It said sales for the first nine weeks of 2006 were flat and like-for-like profit was “materially” below that achieved in 2005. It blamed this on increased competition and pressure on consumer spending. It also warned of a £5m extra cost for its energy bill. Full-year pre-tax profit rose 5% to £50.2m on turnover up from £504.2m to £533.4m.
