Greggs’ Bakers Oven sit-down format has been particularly badly affected by low numbers of consumers. The 1,300-strong bakery group warned profit in the second half was coming in below budget. It shares fell 230p to £46.50 after a trading update in which it blamed the weak retailing market for conditions that were “less positive than we expected”. Like-for-like sales in the 19 weeks to October 29 rose 2.8% but the improved performance earlier in that period had “been more than offset by poorer performance in recent weeks”.
