Scottish & Newcastle's decision to use its John Smith's brand to back the Grand National helped boost corporate sponsorship in jump-racing to £23m last year. As a result, the sport has become big business, creating thousands of jobs, and attendances soared at race meetings by 45% between 2001 and 2005. About £420m has been invested in the sector during that period, and a further £300m is forecast to be spent by 2011, according to a report, Jump Racing Focus, to be published on Wednesday.
