SABMiller is targeting small breweries in China as part of efforts to build its market share in the country. Andre Parker, managing director of SABMiller Africa and Asia, said that the group was looking in the Yangtze River Delta region and Sichuan province. Parker said he expected SABMiller's profits in China to increase as government-backed breweries increasingly lose subsidies. Parker said: "State subsidies for local breweries are running out and the expiration of these subsidies will allow us to make higher profits in the next five years." The company pulled out of the bidding for Harbin Brewery Group, China's fourth-largest brewery, last year. The brewery went to Anheuser-Busch.
