A brave new world beckons for Whitbread, according to The Sunday Times. Chief executive Alan Parker is off to India this week to check on the dozen or so Costa Coffee sites in Delhi. He is also investigating whether to open in China. Meanwhile there are plans to expand the Premier Travel Inn chain into the Middle East. Parker has cheered the City with a series of announcements alongside the interim results. Most observers believe the TGI Fridays and Pizza Hut chains will be sold eventually. Merrill Lynch leisure analyst Ian Rennardson feels the "restructuring story" is far from over. Parker is not ruling out more disposals and admits the company is reviewing its franchised restaurant brands. Mitchells&Butlers has also made no secret of its desire to acquire Whitbread's pub division. But Parker shies away from using the term "break-up" and believes talk of a private equity bid will soon subside.
