Matthew Clark, the drinks wholesaler partly owned by Punch Taverns, has sold Forth Wines, its Scottish wine supplier business, to a group of investors. Senior trade figures George Thomson, Ewen Cameron and Ian Cumming, together with finance expert Alan Cramond, have bought the business for an undisclosed sum, in a deal backed by the Royal Bank of Scotland and a small syndicate of private investors. Steve Thomson, managing director at Matthew Clark, said: “It was a difficult decision, but we are confident this deal will allow us to concentrate on other areas within our business, while remaining committed to the Scottish market, with our Glasgow and Dundee operations.” Forth Wines mainly supplies wines and spirits to Scottish restaurants, pubs and clubs but has UK agency and distribution rights over some wines.
