The FTSE 100 index of leading shares has hit a 31 month high. Despite a shock increase in UK inflation, the index gained 70.73 points to 6056.43 yesterday as a slew of positive trading updates, including brewer SabMiller, boosted investor sentiment. The FTSE 100 reached its lowest point of recent times in March 2009, increasing 72% since and breaking the 6,000 mark just before Christmas. A similar rise was seen on stock markets across Europe.
