The company that owns Claridge's is expected to become the subject of a £1bn bidding war after the Barclay brothers declared the purchase of a 25% stake. The acquisition of the stake in Maybourne Hotel Group, from the Dublin-based Green family, is likely to spark rival interest form a clutch of super-rich suitors led by the Qatari royal family. Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay said they had purchased Misland (Cyprus) Investments, which owns 24.8% of Maybourne, owner of the Berkley, Claridge's and Connaught. The price remains confidential, but property insiders estimated the value of Maybourne at more than £900m. The Barclays are likely to have paid about £75m for the stake. The Times, Business, p46
