Paramedics have called for a ban on pub happy hours because heart attack victims are having to wait for ambulances as crews are delayed by treating drunks. Crews in Oxfordshire said that in the past year more than 10,000 patients, or 10% of all emergency calls, needed treatment for injuries sustained while they were drunk. Paul Cooke, of South Central Ambulance Service for Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, has called for drink promotions to be banned and extended opening hours to be restricted.
