Thorntons has taken its coffee shop concept off the backburner with plans to spend £8m on its expansion.

The chocolate retailer put the development of the café chain on hold last June pending a strategic review.

Thorntons announced an 8% fall in first-half pre-tax profits to £10m on a 0.4% rise in comparable sales.
