Starbucks is to donate $5m over five years to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, with an initial donation of $1m to go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The company has also donated more than 30,000 pounds of ground coffee; 235,000 bottles of water and 9,600 bottled Tazo drinks. Howard Schultz, Starbucks’ chairman, said: "We are deeply saddened by the tremendous loss of life and devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina." Schultz also announced that the Schultz Family Foundation was contributing $1m for immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts.
