Starbucks UK has teamed up with Apple to launch a new digital initiative called “Pick of the Week”, which will give its customers access to exclusive free downloads on iTunes. The new initiative, which launched today, will see each of the chain’s c.700 stores stock a new Pick of the Week download card redeemable on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com) for a complimentary song or book. Singer-songwriter James Morrison’s song “In My Dreams” was the first free download available as part of the partnership, while future artists will include Coldplay, Tony Bennett and Norah Jones, and The Kooks. Once Pick of the Week cards are distributed, customers will have up to 60 days from the date they are available to redeem their complimentary offering on iTunes. The launch of Pick of the Week in the UK signals the start of a global partnership between Starbucks and Apple. Last week, Starbucks announced the launch of one click, free high-speed wi-fi access for all its customers in the UK.
