Starbucks has announced plans to double acquisitions of coffee from Africa from 6% last year to 12% by 2009. The US coffee chain has also pledged to give $1m (£509,000) in micro finance to farmers in East Africa, following a row over coffee trademarking with Ethiopia. The company wants to improve relations with the Ethiopian government, after Oxfam has accused it of trying to block Ethiopia from copywriting its most famous coffee bean varieties.
