Kout Food Group (KFG), a Kuwait-based food service group, is opening its first healthy eating cafe in the UK at the beginning of 2007, which is set to be part of a chain of up to 30 cafes. The company, which runs 150 casual dining restaurants in the Middle East, has invested £250,000 to set up its first Nuts About Life site in Holborn, London. The new 2,200sq ft cafe on Fetter Lane has 84 covers and is expected to achieve a weekly turnover of £12,000. KFG is planning to invest £30m in its expansion in the UK and aims to open between 20 and 30 cafes, with two further sites in London already in the pipeline. The cafes will be self service and will offer nut-based dishes, smoothies and salads. The company also has plans to open a new style of casual dining restaurants and is currently in talks with top chefs. Costa Peridakis, vice president of commercial development for KFG, said: "The UK has a very imaginative approach to food which, together with flexible labour and investment laws, means there are many advantages for us."
