Barracuda Group, the managed pub operator led by Mark McQuater, said that the introduction of breakfasts has led to a 35% increase in like-for-like sales across its estate during the 9-12 noon shoulder trading period, with breakfast sales up 125% in total. The group said that breakfast was now being served from 9.00am or 10.00am until 12 noon across the majority of its 206-strong pub and bar estate. The company launched a new breakfast menu in March, featuring traditional early morning favourites such as a full English breakfast, as well as toasted teacakes, sausage, bacon and fried egg sandwiches. In addition, the group said it had experienced a 28% increase in coffee sales since the introduction of dedicated branded Costa coffee sections into 130 0f its sites. It said it is the only national high street pub company to offer Costa Coffee in its pubs and bars nationally. Mark McQuater, Chief Executive of Barracuda Group, said: “I am extremely encouraged by the success of our breakfast and branded coffee offer which have been well received whilst generating significant incremental sales and increasing trading hours across our pub estate. This development perfectly complements Barracuda’s strategy of operating a more rounded, seven-day trading business as we continue to evolve our estate to maintain our position at the forefront of today’s customer trends and bring increased balance to the group’s sales mix.”
