Thieves stole 300 creates of champagne from the All England Lawn Tennis Club, at Wimbledon, after they posed as contractors from a wine company. The theft on Wednesday evening managed to fool officials that it was an official collection from the contracting champagne firm, believed to be Lanson. The conmen turned up with a lorry and security escort to pick up 300 boxes of champagne left over that day. The genuine collection lorry arrived to make the same pick-up almost exactly one hour later. Police valued the haul at £26,000 although it would have sold for £90,000 in the bars of the All England Club. The Times 01/07/06 page 19 The Daily Telegraph 01/07/06 page 5
